Industrial developer T. Craig Morgan hopes to fill Place 3 on the school board in tomorrow’s election.
Morgan’s campaign centers on involving the community and expanding on his role of helping the district’s finances by serving on bond committees.
“I was on the last three bond committees and really enjoyed being part of the growth of the community, and the stewardship of the community,” Morgan said. “And after talking to some other folks, they told me, ‘If you like doing the bond committee stuff, why don’t you try to do the board?’”
In Morgan’s opinion, the district’s best plan is to maintain its current direction.
“Honestly, this district is in a really good place,” Morgan said. “I’ve talked to many teachers. I talked to superintendents and a few other folks. (EMSISD) is what a lot of people will call a little bit of a hidden gem.”
The values that Morgan wants to implement in our school district are centered on helping the teachers and support supplies needed.
“Making sure that we have all the tools that the teachers can use in order to teach effectively is really where I want this,” Morgan said. “That’s one of the big things that I’m looking at for myself, and I love what we’ve done before in the past and I want to keep doing it.”
Morgan hopes to make this happen by focusing on facilities.
“Updating the schools that we have today, or building new schools,” Morgan said. “Like we just opened up the new Eagle Mountain High school out here by where I live.”
Morgan said he’s focused on supporting those who support our students.
“Teachers are grossly underpaid for what they do,” Morgan said. “The future of society with the kids that are there. It’s a shame of what they’re making, and I would hope and wish that we could figure out a way to pay teachers more.”
