A.P. Art students have revamped the library entrance with a new mural that better represents the people at Boswell High School.
Walking into the library feels different, with the bright colors and creativity on the walls. What was once an outdated mural has been completely revitalized by students who are driven to leave their mark on the school.
“We were talking about the mural that was here, and it was super old and kind of felt outdated,” A.P. Art teacher Hayley Green said. “It didn’t feel like it included all the fun things that we have going on at Boswell.”
Since that conversation, an idea to update the mural came along.
Every day since the beginning of the current school year, Green’s A.P. Art class has worked on adding new artwork to the library. Each addition highlights what the school has to offer and marks ongoing progress in the project.
While murals aren’t new to her, getting to work alongside her students on a project as big as this one has been an exciting experience.
“Teaching them about the weirdness of painting on walls and the complications that can come from it,” Green said.
Instead of spending their time with pen and paper, they’re getting a whole new canvas, and for many, this change has allowed them to experience a whole different side of art.
“Getting the experience of being out of the classroom and doing something different to expand my art,” senior Natlie Pinnow said, “to try something new in art, not just pencil and paper.”
Similarly, senior artist Shane Hopkins shares the same view.
“I mean, that’s something that I’ve got to do—make an impact on the school,” Hopkins said. “This project has been an exciting experience”
This mural isn’t just decoration; it’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication of these students.
“My favorite memories are just hanging out with people in here and being able to talk to people that I understand and know,” Hopkins said.
